Intel bought Mobileye in 2017, and now they are advancing the development of autonomous driving technology and driver-assist systems. Their innovations include computer chip and software as well collision avoidance technology. MobilEye built Riad, a self-driving prototype. Intel also plans to use the technology in its own vehicles. Are you curious about how these technologies will change the future of transportation technology? Continue reading to find more.

Intel purchased Mobileye by Intel in 2017

Intel recently acquired Mobileye, a company that specializes in digital vision technology, a critical component of self-driving cars. This acquisition strengthens Intel's efforts expand its portfolio to include services for autonomous vehicle. Intel hopes to appeal also to automakers that don't have the in-house expertise required in this area and are dependent upon Google and other third parties to provide these services.

Mobileye acquired EyeQ to develop software for autonomous vehicles. The acquisition will also strengthen Mobileye's chip roadmap. EyeQ is a system on chip that processes vision and does not compromise on performance. Already, 27 carmakers have signed contracts with the company. Mobileye will be able to offer more than just automobiles. It will also have the ability to serve a wider variety of industries through this acquisition. Intel's investment in Mobileye will allow it to further expand its product portfolio and focus on business-to-business applications.

MobilEye works as a collision avoidance system

Mobileye, a leader in collision avoidance systems, uses a sophisticated vision sensor for detecting threats. It continuously monitors distances and relative speeds to determine the danger of collision. Many leading automotive manufacturers have chosen Mobileye as the world's leading collision avoidance technology. Here are some of the MobilEye benefits. Let us find out why it's important.

This innovative technology combines artificial intelligence with telematics to alert drivers of potential collisions. It continuously scans ahead for hazards, such as pedestrians and cyclists. It then warns drivers via audio and visual warnings before they cause an accident. It works in all weather conditions, even nighttime. Drivers don't need to rely on their car's engine to predict what the future holds. This technology detects obstacles in real time.

EyeQ, a custom accelerator processor chips

Mobileye's EyeQ family system-on-chips provides the processing power required for ADAS functions. EyeQs support both fully and semi-autonomous drive and can be used for single or dual-camera sensor applications. They can process Lidars, radars, as well surround cameras. EyeQ processors were manufactured using TSMC Technology. For this reason, they can also support the latest operating systems, including Windows 10.

Mobileye's EyeQ is the core of its technological leadership. EyeQ's high performance, scalable hardware accelerator architecture allows for state-ofthe-art computer visual performance. EyeQ Ultra will become automotive-grade in 2025. The EyeQ Ultra includes EyeQ6L, EyeQ6H. Its strong architecture will allow for a new age in mobility, with a higher level safety.

MobilEye's Riad prototype is self-driving.

MobilEye's prototype car is a far cry from the autonomous vehicles that are currently available in many cities around the world. This technology requires active participation by the driver in many aspects of driving. The company has created a prototype that can navigate difficult environments without any human input. It also successfully negotiates with pedestrians and jaywalkers, makes 180-degree turns at multiple traffic signals, rides through roundabouts and other regular driving maneuvers.

The company is planning to build an entire auto stack and test each component before combining them. The company plans on establishing a commercial fleet in three major cities of self-driving automobiles by the end 2022. The prototype self driving vehicle from the company can travel safely over four million miles per year. It can detect pedestrians before they collide and adjust its course accordingly.
